Hospital Welcomes
New Executive Vice President
Mark A. Norrell, FACHE, has been
appointed executive vice president of Hutchinson Hospital.
He comes to Hutchinson from Pocatello,
ID, where he served 10 years as vice president of Bannock Regional
Medical Center, a public county-owned hospital with 169 medical/surgical
beds and 120 skilled nursing beds.
Norrell has a bachelor's degree
in clinical laboratory technology and master's degrees in hospital
administration and business administration from the University
of Florida. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare
Executive and a licensed nursing home administrator.
Before moving to Pocatello, he served
as director of strategic planning for South Miami Hospital, South
Miami, FL, from 1987 to 1993. Norrell said he enjoys living in
communities the size of Hutchinson.
"The same pluses exist in Hutchinson
that existed in Pocatello, community pride and friendliness, and
much less 'hassle factor' than larger cities." he said.
Norrell fills the vacancy created
by the retirement of Alvin Penner, who was Hutchinson Hospital's
executive vice president and chief operating officer for 16 years.
New
CEO Joins
Horizons Mental Health Center
Michael Truman, Wichita, is new
chief executive officer of Horizons
Mental Health Center.
He fills the vacancy created by
the retirement of Jim Sunderland, who
served as Horizons' administrator for 16 years.
Truman will head a staff of 116
employees providing mental health
services in Barber, Harper, Kingman, Pratt & Reno Counties.
Born in South Carolina, Truman grew
up in Missouri and was graduated from Central Missouri State University,
Warrensburg, MO. He has a bachelor of science degree in psychology
and a master of science degree in clinical psychology. He also
earned a master's in business administration from Webster University,
Wichita, in 1999.
Truman worked 14 years for Charter
Hospitals, transferring from
Kansas City in 1997 to become chief operating officer for Charter
Hospital in Wichita. He also has experience in nursing home administration
and most recently was practice manager for a Wichita psychiatrist.
At Horizons, Truman will supervise
the day-to-day operations of all
five Horizons' offices and will give special attention to strategic
planning, market initiatives, and development of new services
for the area.
Horizons is a member of the Health
Care Inc. family. The main office
is at 1715 East 23rd, next door to Hutchinson Hospital.
Goodwin
Named
KONL President-Elect
Linda Goodwin, Vice President for
Nursing at Hutchinson Hospital, is new President-Elect of the
Kansas Organization of Nurse Leaders (KONL). The organization
met during the annual convention of the Kansas Hospital Association
Nov. 12-14 in Topeka.
Goodwin, RN, MSN, MBA, will take
office in the Fall, 2003. She currently serves as KONL's bylaws
chairperson as well as chairperson of District IV which encompasses
Wichita, McPherson, Hutchinson, Wellington, and other Central
Kansas communities.
Goodwin joined Hutchinson Hospital
in 1999, relocating from Salina Regional Health Center where she
was Director of Care Management. She has a Master in Business
Administration from Kansas Wesleyan University, Salina; and a
Master of Science in Nursing from Fort Hays State University,
Hays.
She has been a member of KONL for
16 years.
