A
Team Effort
The heart surgery team includes
physicians, nurses, scrub technicians
and perfusionists. |
More and more patients are coming
to Hutchinson for heart surgery. Hutchinson Hospital provides state-of-the-art
cardiac surgical procedures including:
- Coronary artery bypass procedures
- Repair and replacement of heart valves
- Aneurysm repairs
- Minimally invasive procedures
- Repair of congenital heart defects
Because time is critical when dealing
with cardiac emergencies, the close proximity of these services
is very important for the community, surrounding areas, and for
positive patient outcomes.

Technology
To support these services, the program
is equipped with up-to-date technology and supported by a team of
highly-educated physicians, nurses, technicians and perfusionists.
Mark Levinson, MD, heart surgeon,
leads the heart surgery team. He left a busy cardiac practice in
Seattle in 1997, and moved to Hutchinson, inspired by an opportunity
to build a new heart surgery program as well as enjoy a better quality
of life.
Levinson is founder and Editor-In-Chief
of The Heart Surgery Forum, a cardiothoracic multimedia journal.
He continually seeks for quality improvement in cardiac surgery
techniques and postoperative care. Click here for o;Levinson's Web site - New Options in Heart Surgery.
The cardiac surgery program participates
in the Society of Thoracic Surgeons National Database. Mortality
for heart surgery at Hutchinson Hospital is less than 3% -- better
than the national average.
